Crochet Masks in Haarlem, the Netherlands in June 2011
Jun.15, 2012
Sadly I do not know the name of the artist and I have searched on Google and not found the artist there either. I did find many crocheted masks but none that looked quite like these. If you happen know the creator of these wonderful pieces I would love to know.
The photographs were taken through the window of the gallery by the St Bavo Church in the Grote Markt in Haarlem, the Netherlands. We were on our way to listen to jazz when we spotted the masks and I think they are great and hope you do as well.

Dear Connielena,
What a find! I know St. Bavo’s Church and visited Corrie ten Boom’s house/shop there in Haarlem. My husband migrated here to NZ in 1954 and we have been married 56 years now having made several lengthy trips to Holland where he still has a few relatives in Rotterdam.
Here in Orewa, Auckland, I am a member of a Creative Knitting and Crochet group and have been associated with all manner of Crafts over the years. I also am a member of a Photographic Group involved in much work of a creative nature.
The masks you saw are indeed absolutely stunning and I find your links to other patterns so different to much of the work that we do. You have given our group a whole new perspective to explore.
Thank you so much,
Berenice Veldhoen.

Dear Berenice, Thank you so much for your wonderful comments.
The three years that we lived in the Netherlands were truly amazing and there is much to write about and as time goes by I shall. I am now in the process of finding a group in the Creative Fibre Waikato area – for me to join as I crave meeting people who work in the art and craft of knitting particularly.
I do have a website where we did write some of our Dutch adventures Old Fart Expats even this site is not up to date – but we did absolutely love the experience of living in Europe and particularly of course in Haarlem which is a beautiful little and old city. We do add to it from time to time.
I was born in Denmark and came to New Zealand as an 18 month old, and I have a large family in Denmark, more in the USA and a few here in New Zealand.
thank you again for your comments,
Connie
