Hat & gauntlet / fingerless glove things

Sep.06, 2010

You do know I have not ever knitted socks, and until this last week I had never designed for the hands and arms. I still haven’t knitted the IOU red socks for Best Beloved and Son. They will happen, there is a birthday early December and then there is Christmas, and then there is Best Beloveds birthday, and fathers’ day and so on …..

But the hands they have won. This will be a pattern for long arm warmers, medium length arm warmers (to the elbow), and short length hand & wrist warmers all with a feather and fan lace on either end or the length of the piece, you can choose. Sounds simple and yes it is.

Feather and Fan is simple lace created with k2tog and YO, (Knit 2 stitches together and Yarn Over eyelets). It is knitted in the round so there are no P rows (Purl rows). perfect

Oh, did I forget to say it – this beret is a more of a slouchy. I am not exactly sure what the definition of a slouchy is, but the body of this hat is is big enough to wear over the head and is the right size around the band to also wear as a beret as in the photo. Both these designs are suitable for using up your stash. A very important consideration and useful for Christmas gift knitting. The fingerless gloves took about 90 gms of double knitting and the hat took 1 x 50 gm ball also of double knitting yarn and some oddments.
