bought yarn and pins in Kaitaia

by connie on Sep.07, 2011, under Blog

I am knitting a baby blanket in simple garter stitch which I can do in the car, talking with my very frail mother in law etc. Feels so good after so many weeks without any yarn in hand and desperately taking photos of yarn shops and knits on the bicycle trip from Haarlem, the Netherlands to Untersiggenthal in Switzerland via Germany and France and then home to New Zealand.

Feels so good.

I will give the blanket to the Kaitaia maternity unit for a new mum and baby there, which is what my Best Beloveds mother has been doing for years and years.

OK Ava – it is done

by connie on Mar.14, 2011, under Blog

bar the blocking, that is. I did crochet shells around the edge and when you grow bigger than the cot blanket is – your Gran can crochet further rounds so that it will grow with you.

Ava - Cot Blanket in many colours, with crochet shell trim

Ok Sharon, all you need to do is a treble crochet in the shallows between the shells and 2 chains followed by a double crochet in the middle treble of the crochet shell – so 1 treble, 2 chains, 1 dc, 2 chains, 1 treble. Easy peasy

And now Ava I do have finish the bed spread / throw for your Uncle. It is in red, black, silver greys. It is knitted the same way as your cot blanket, on the diagonal. I need to finish it before we leave to come back to live in New Zealand and of course to meet you.

    Sleep well.

    For Ava

by connie on Mar.02, 2011, under Blog

I have knitted, well nearly knitted a cot blanket of many colours for baby Ava in New Zealand.

Yes it does look unlike any baby blanket you have seen before. But that is intentional. Something I discovered long ago is that kids who have their own blanket even on the cot might just continue to enjoy that blanket as they grow. They love the colours, and maybe if it were white or soft pink it may not last as a blanket for the future.

Anyway Ava this will be yours, and it will be there in New Zealand long before you are big enough for that cot, Great Aunty Connie promises that okay.

And if you still love it as you grow your grandma might just continue crocheting around it to make bigger as you grow. Did you hear that Sharon?

Pattern for Avas cot blanket is here.

Kiwi Cape Version 2, with Ostrich yarn

by connie on Sep.27, 2010, under Blog

Gorgeous elegant and Sexy Cape – created with 3 strands of yarn knitted together. Patons Ostrich, Naturally Mist Mohair and Regia Hand Dye Effect. I used garter stitch, Stocking Stitch and reverse stocking stitch as well as changing the Naturally Mist colours as I knitted the cape. The Naturally Mist colours used were cream, beige and dark brown. I wanted to add an orange (no brand name) colour to this, as well as the Naturally Mist Black. But I restrained myself.

I have changed the pattern shaping from earlier capes as well – so I might create a pattern.

This photo is closest to the real colour of the cape.

This photo shows the whole piece – but is not a good display of the colour.

This picture is so unlike the richness of the colour as it should show. I used the flash, and you can see the colours in the cape and the stitch changes as well.

Great cape for a night out on the town, stunning over jeans and cami, very warm and cosy and very very sexy
