What does one create with one hank of Colourscape Chunky?

Nov.17, 2010

I went into Amsterdam today to visit the Physiotherapist – who is helping me deal with some structural issues. On the way back to the railway station I went to walk past de Afstap – a little yarn shop in the heart of Amsterdam. And then I just could not help myself, I walked into de Afstap to have a look at their knitting and crochet books, and of course their yarn.

Rowan Colourscape Chunky - Maybe Jungle

Today a hank of Colourscape Chunky just flew off the hook on the wall into my hand and I bought it. I just couldn’t help myself.

The label, which I read on train has separated from the hank – so I had to check on the Rowan site to see what I have in my hot little hands.

So it is Colourscape Chunky – shade : well that I am unsure of – it could be “jungle”.

Colourscape is a roving type yarn with an artisan look and rustic appeal which is spun and made in Britain. Designed by renowned textile artist, Kaffe Fassett each hank gives a single repeat rainbow like effect.
Needle size : 7 mm
Tension / Gauge : 14 sts to 18 rows
Stiches per 10 cm : 14
Meterage / Yardage : 160 m / 175 yds
Yarn Specification : 100% lambswool

Now the next issue for me is “what does one create with one hank of Colourscape?” Any ideas out there please?

I have not knitted with the yarn previously. I do not often knit with this yarn weight and how far does 160 metres really go, yes I know it goes 160 metres. But when knitting a hat or a cowl or a scarf.

Thank you Kaffe for the colours in the hank.

Every time I have visited de Afstap (and that is quite often) I have walked past this yarn, sometimes I have stopped and looked at it, touched, taken it down (smelt it, felt it against my face) and put it back. Maybe this a new colour, maybe it is just the first time this colour has been hanging there in my view as I walked in the door. Maybe I was just ready.

Now I have it and I must create something!

What a delicious tale of addiction!
I think you should aim for something small. How about something you can stuff that has a curious shape? Then you can hug and sniff and cuddle your yummy chunky friend every time you walk past it. I think it should be near your front door to greet you every time you come home. Something like a sputnik? There was a free pattern on the Beroca site… http://www.berroco.com/exclusives/celestine_crochet/celestine_crochet.html You probably don’t have enough though, that pattern is for sock yarn… hmmmm keep us informed :) )
How are those red socks going?

Do you think that I am addicted – WOW!

I looked at the sputnik pattern and I have printed it to add to my pile because I think it is gorgeous. I would need a lot more of the colourscape chunky to create it however, so I will just have to keep you posted on both.

Red Socks – did you mention RED SOCKS, hhhmmmmm
Have to keep you posted on that as well.

That yarn is delicious!!! What’s the number on it? (should be a 3-digit number beginning with 4). Am dying to get my hands on some. Thanks!

Hello Naomi, I am sorry that I do not have the label from the yarn.

That is why I guessed at the colour. I am knitting a cowl right now so when it is finished I can check the way the colours sit and maybe I can be more definite about the colour.

    thank you for asking.

hi Naomi – I checked on the Rowan site and if my hank is “Jungle” then the number is 447.
